NEW this year - Chili Cook-off!!

Costume Contest begins at 1:45 PM

Dessert-Walk begins at 2:15 PM

There will be carnival type booths for members to play.  There will be lots of games and fun!   This event kicks off a year of fun for 4-H members and their families.  The Vacaville Area 4-H clubs will be hosting the event this year.  Each of the 11 clubs in the county will have a carnival type booth for members to play, all costing 10¢ each. 

Costumes are highly encouraged and there will be a parade and costume contest again this year!  Awards will be given for the funniest costume, most original costume and the scariest costume.

The Costume Contest will be judged by the following age categories:

Primary - 5 to 8

Junior - 9 to 10

Intermediate - 11 to 13

Senior - 14 to 19

Please do NOT wear costumes that depict violence, blood, guts or gore. The costume contest and evaluating will begin at approximately 1:45 p.m. with a parade of entries. 

 

A food booth will offer a tasty selection of lunch items available for purchase. Food booth proceeds benefit the Lynne Burns Memorial 4-H Scholarship fund.

Hot Dog $2.50
Chips, Soda or Bottled Water $1 each
Hot Dog Meal $4 - Includes chips, soda or water

In addition to the carnival, two community service drives will be held.  Peanut butter drive with donations distributed to food closets in each community of the county.  Toys for Tots drive for toys that will be distributed locally.

 

Admission to the Harvest Fair is per family:

Last name starts with the letter A to M:
Bite size cookies or cupcakes

Last name starts with the letter N to Z:
Cut up veggies or fruits

Competition is open to 4-H members ages 9-19 by December 31, 2019.

NO limit on the number of teams per club.

RECIPE (IN WORD FORMAT) MUST BE RECEIVED, NO LATER THAN WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER  23, 2019 BY 5 P.M. through the link below:

2019 4-H Harvest Fair Chili Cook-Off Registration Form

INCOMPLETE ENTRIES WILL BE DISQUALIFIED!

A complete entry consists of the following completed by Wednesday, October 23, 2019 by 5 p.m.

  • On-line registration
  • Uploaded recipe in Word
  • Adult Advisor completing the on-line UCANR Food Safety Training with a quiz score of at least 82%

Chili Cook-Off:
Set-up will begin at 11:15 a.m.
Evaluating will begin at 12:45 p.m.
Tasting will begin at 1:15 p.m.

Teams MUST bring the following:

  • Small sign with your club name, name of chili & team name
  • Card table - no larger than 36" X 36" or 24" X 48"
  • Table Covering
  • Chili in at least a 4 quart crock pot
  • Instant Read Thermometer
  • Serving utensil
  • Disposable Food Service Gloves
  • 100 - 1/4 sheet copies of your recipe
  • Extension cord with a surge protector
  • Small trash receptacle.

Sample cups and spoons will be supplied for your use.

Important Requirements

This is the annual training and quiz that is necessary to be an adult advisor for the Chili Cook-off team, even if you have completed food safety training in the past.  

Adult Advisors must take and pass each year, prior to the October 18, 2019 deadline, the Food Safety Training and Quiz with a score of 82% (9 of 11) or better.  Here is the link to the training and quiz:  Food Safety Quiz.  Use the following to sign in:  username: miskis and password:  makeitsafe_1234.  The link will take you to the UCANR Food Safety Education.  Please click on Intro at the top of the page to begin.  Please read all pages and use the link at the bottom of each page to continue to the next section.

The Adult Advisor is responsible to train and ensure youth team members utilize safe food handling practices.

All meat used must be slaughtered and processed in USDA inspected facilities.
Packaging will display the USDA inspection seal.

Teams must monitor the temperature of the chili at all times with an instant read thermometer to assure safe food handling.  Chili must be heated to and maintained at 140 degrees Fahrenheit or above.  Non-compliance is grounds for disqualification.

  • Merge onto I-80 E.
  • Take EXIT 54B toward Peabody Rd/Elmira.
  • Merge onto Cliffside Dr.
  • Turn left onto Peabody Rd.
  • Turn right onto Elmira Rd.
  • Turn right onto Nut Tree Rd.
  • Take the 1st left onto Keith Way. The school is on the right.

From Dixon:

  • Merge onto I-80 W toward San Francisco.
  • Take the E Monte Vista Ave/Allison Dr exit, EXIT 55.
  • Turn right onto E Monte Vista Ave.
  • Turn right onto Nut Tree Rd.
  • Turn left onto Keith Way.
  • The school is on the right

From Rio Vista:

  • Turn left onto State Highway 12/CA-12.
  • Turn right onto State Highway 113/CA-113. Continue to follow CA-113.
  • Turn left onto Rio Dixon Rd/CA-113.
  • Turn left onto Fry Rd.
  • Fry Rd becomes Alamo Dr.
  • Turn right onto Nut Tree Rd.

El Club 4-H del Condado de Solano arranca sus actividades anuales en esta Feria, todos los miembros 4-H, sus familias y amigos son bienvenidos

Los Clubes 4-H tendrán puestos con juegos a solo 10 centavos, caminatas de postres, concurso de disfraces para las familias, así como también bebidas y otras sorpresas.

Un puesto de comida ofrecerá una sabrosa selección de productos de almuerzo disponibles para la compra. Las ganancias de los puestos de alimentos benefician al fondo de becas 4-H de Lynne Burns Memorial.
