Orientation & Training Requirements

NEW 4-H ADULT VOLUNTEERS
Applying to be a 4-H adult volunteer:
All 4-H adult volunteers must apply and be appointed annually.

A volunteer leader must be 18 years or older. A 4-H adult volunteer cannot simultaneously be a 4-H member. All NEW 4-H adult volunteers, and those returning adult volunteers who have had a break in service of one year or more (If you are not sure, please send an email to mtryan@ucanr.edu) must complete the volunteer application & enrollment process, including the live-scan criminal records check.  An adult interested in serving as an adult volunteer is eligible for “appointment” by the Director after completing the required steps below.

The following mandatory items must be completed within 30 days of initiating ANY step of the enrollment process.  

Please follow the steps below to apply to be a 4-H adult volunteer.

  1. Fill out the online survey at 4-H Adult Volunteer Interest Survey
  2. One-on-one interview may be required (will be notified by Solano County 4-H staff).
  3. Complete live-scan criminal records check with the State Department of Justice. (Contact mtryan@ucanr.edu for the form)
  4. Submit ZSuite adult volunteer application online at: .  Create a profile, enter all required information, and submit.  Please make sure the email address in the system is correct and one you check regularly.  ZSuite adult volunteer status will show as pending.

  5. Complete the required online training in eXtension* at: (Link will be shared once Interest Survey is complete).   (Can be completed in more than one sitting)
    • Introduction to the Course
    • Module 1:  4-H Volunteer Orientation, 4 lessons (approx. 40 min)
    • Module 2:  Foundations of Positive Youth Development, 1 lesson (approx. 20 min)
      • Foundations
      • Connected 4-H:  Lesson 1
      • Connected 4-H:  Lesson 2
    • Module 4:  Abuse Risk Management for Volunteers, 1 lesson (approx. 15 min)
    • Module 5:  Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect, 1 lesson (approx. 40 mins)
      • Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect Acknowledgment

 

6.  Complete any additional trainings required by your county.

♦  Food Safety Training - For volunteers leading a food related project, serving or preparing food for 4-H meetings/events/activities/fundraisers. Training information is  posted at:  http://solano4h.ucanr.edu/Resources/Food_Safety_Education/

9.  The application is reviewed by the county director after you have completed steps
       1 thru 8.

    1. If approved, notification of your 4-H adult volunteer appointment will be sent.  If no email address is available a letter will be sent by mail from the county director.
    2. If there are any limitations on the appointment, a subsequent letter will be sent from the county director.
    3. If not approved, a letter will be sent to the applicant from the county director.

Before service as a volunteer begins, the Capitol Corridor Director must confirm your appointment prior to any involvement with youth.

Your status in ZSuite must be ACTIVE.

LIVE-SCAN CRIMINAL RECORDS CHECK PROCESS

Before service as a volunteer begins, the Capitol Corridor Director must confirm your appointment prior to any involvement with youth.

Your status in ZSuite must be ACTIVE.

Live-scan criminal records check with the California Department of Justice:  Have your fingerprints taken through Live Scan.  Complete the Applicant Information section.

This is a NEW “Request for Live Scan Service Form”.  The form dated 4/2020, includes important updated information. Please use this form & discard all others.

The updated information includes the “Applicant Privacy Notice, Privacy Act Statement, and Applicant’s Privacy Rights”.

The Applicant reads the “Applicant Privacy Notice, Privacy Act Statement, and Applicant’s Privacy Rights”, then fills out the “Request for Live Scan Service Form”, page 1.

To confirm that the Applicant has received and read the above mentioned notices, the Applicant has 2 options.

  • Sign and date page 1 of the form electronically, then print out 3 hard copies of the signed page to take to the Live Scan provider.
  • Print out 3 hard copies of page 1 of the form, physically sign and date all forms, and take the signed copies to the Live Scan provider.

After completing the live scan process, the applicant keeps one copy for themselves and mails the third copy to 4-H Staff at:.
